There are no meaningful meat-free options if you’re vegetarian, your options are fries, kale slaw, or mushy mac and cheese. There is no bone-in chicken, no flavorful or fatty dark meat chicken, just lean tenderloins. The reason for that wait, aside from the brand’s half-million Instagram plus followers, is the fact that Dave’s makes a tasty and halal hot chicken tender. The condition is often a hallmark of psychosis, occurring in an estimated 60 to 70 percent of people with schizophrenia, and in a subset of those diagnosed with bipolar disorder, dementia and major depression. "Further, the investigation of the developmental interactions between the thalamus and the cortex may help to identify new targets for intervention aimed at preventing the emergence of psychotic symptoms in individuals at-risk due to genetic conditions or clinical ultra-high-risk status."Ĭameron Carter, MD, Editor of Biological Psychiatry: Cognitive Neuroscience and Neuroimaging added: "This study of individuals with 22q11 may provide a unique window into the alterations in brain development that underlie the development of psychotic symptoms, as well as other developmental and cognitive problems in these young people. At his psychiatric clinic in the Connecticut Mental Health Center, Albert Powers sees people every day who experience hallucinations. "These findings provide a mechanistic explanation to the extreme likelihood of hallucinatory phenomena in youths prone to psychosis due to 22q11.2 deletion syndrome," Dr. They postulate that such hyper-connectivity might underlie the activation of such auditory areas at rest, leading to hallucinations. Upon assessing functional connectivity within the brain, the authors also found that subjects with AH had greater connectivity between MGN with the auditory cortex and other language-processing areas. When comparing 22q11.2 DS subjects with and without AH, those with AH had a smaller volume of MGN and a different developmental trajectory. In addition, other thalamic nuclei developed differently in the two groups. In contrast, thalamic nuclei that communicate with the frontal cortex, which is involved in higher cognitive functions, were larger in 22q11.2 DS subjects than in healthy controls. The medial and lateral geniculate nuclei (MGN, LGN), which are involved in relaying auditory and visual sensory information, were smaller in people with 22q11.2 DS. While neither the total volume of the thalamus nor its developmental growth trajectory differed between 22q11.2 DS and control subjects, the researchers found differences in specific thalamic sub-nuclei. For this longitudinal study, the researchers collected brain scans every three years from subjects aged 8 to 35, with each receiving between 1 and 4 scans. In the current study, the authors sought to parse more specifically how the thalamus and its connections to other brain areas differed in people with 22q11.2 DS - with and without auditory hallucinations (AH) - from the control group. An estimated one percent of people with schizophrenia have this disorder.Ībnormalities in the thalamus, a brain region recognized as the "gateway" for sensory information coming into the brain, had already been implicated in schizophrenia and hallucinations. People with 22q11.2 DS are at far higher risk than the general public to develop schizophrenia and to experience sensory hallucinations. Using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), the researchers compared brain structures and their connectivity in 110 healthy control subjects and in 120 subjects with a genetic disorder, named 22q11.2 deletion syndrome, or DS. "Our results demonstrate aberrant development of the thalamic nuclei involved in sensory processing and immature pattern of thalamo-cortical connectivity to the brain's auditory regions," said lead author Valentina Mancini, MD. However, if we’re unable to separate image from music, are we really better off watching it all transpire from afar? The fact that rap music is being relegated to a genre of parody, in a time where its communal agenda has never been more relevant is a hate-crime all in itself. Making sense of this topic and the aspects that pertain to it is becoming increasingly blurry in modern society.Īt the end of the day, celebrities are ordinary people-highly prone to spur-of-the-moment outbursts. The fact that blacks are more liable to unfair discrimination on social media and across all aspects of culture, is simply immoral. Nicki Minaj brought up some fair points on racial partiality in the VMA awards, quite epically nailing down the problem with Twitter and the award season at its core-“U couldn’t go on social media w/o seeing ppl doing the cover art, choreo, outfits for Halloween… an impact like that & no VOTY nomination?” she tweeted. This polarization is reinforced by a number of contentious world issues like the rising tide of police brutality and the flaws affiliated with the justice court system. All-out digital war has erupted due to Twitter and it’s downgrading the importance of music in the public eye. Meek Mill called out Drake for purportedly using a ghostwriter and Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift swapped criticisms about body norms and racial prejudice at award shows. Looking back, 2015 hasn’t been short on beefs. The thing is, once you press that tweet button, it’s permanent. Twitter on the other hand, gives artists with a smartphone the opportunity to publicize their hatred. These feuds usually happen behind closed doors, frequently evaporating from a pop culture centerpiece into an irrelevant thing of the past. From Nicki Minaj’s endearingly absurd jabs at Miley Cyrus (“Miley, what’s good?”), to Chris Brown’s bafflingly enduring contentions, the ‘10s are replete with celebrity hostility. Celebrity antagonism isn’t something totally out of the ordinary. With often hilarious results, artists have an integral need to prove their worth. Wiz instigated the feud, but it serves as a perfect example of a beef blown out of proportion. Kanye then engaged in a brawl of signs, after Wiz denounced his new album The Life of Pablo ’s former working title, Waves. Further developments revealed that Wiz was referring to, “Khalifa Kush,” his strain of weed. Take the Kanye West controversy for example, in which he, in classic Yeezy fashion, singled out Wiz Khalifa for name-dropping Kim Kardashian. This social media free-for-all derives most commonly from a wild misunderstanding, disparaging remarks, or racially motivated censures on pop culture. and this aggression is a downright cash cow for both artists and corporate structures. These beefs come in a variety of forms but seem to be mostly aimed at female pop stars and rappers. This is known as a “Twitter beef.” A Twitter beef is essentially the airing of grievances towards a person using social networking as a medium of expression. When surveying Twitter, a noteworthy tweet might pop up here and there, but extended slander between artists is sure to pervade your feed. Twitter supposedly contains information of value, but lately the media platform has become a lightning rod for trash talk. You’d be surprised by the impact a 140-character message can possess. Regular expressionsĪ regular expression, often shortened to “regex” or “regexp”, is a way of specifying a pattern (a particular set of characters or words) in text that can be applied to variable inputs to find all occurrences that match the pattern. Grep also accepts inputs (usually via a pipe) from another command or series of commands. First, Grep can be used to search a given file or files on a system (including a recursive search through sub-folders). There are two ways to provide input to Grep, each with its own particular uses. In such combined implementations, Grep may also behave differently depending on the name by which it is invoked, allowing fGrep, eGrep, and Grep to be links to the same program. These variants are embodied in most modern Grep implementations as command-line switches (and standardised as -E and -F in POSIX.2). The latter searches for any of a list of fixed strings, using the Aho-Corasick algorithm. The tool has its roots in an extended regular expression syntax that was added to UNIX after Ken Thompson’s original regular expression implementation. While most everyday uses of the command are simple, there are a variety of more advanced uses that most people don’t know about - including regular expressions and more, which can become quite complicated.
